The thing that is causing pollution in our society is in the unregenerate heart of man that refuses to repent and trust in The Lord Jesus Christ.

Zephaniah 3.1,2 Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city! She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God.

In this passage Zephaniah was writing about Jerusalem, the city where the temple was located. The priests were there, they had the Word of God. God’s judgment of the city was based on all the light that they were given.

Once again we read the word “woe”, the expression of grief, used by Almighty God to describe the person who is not totally walking after The Lord. Why was the city of Jerusalem filthy, polluted and oppressed? Because she obeyed not God; She heard the Word of God but chose to disobey it. She received not correction; she trusted not in The Lord; they trusted in “good luck”, science, false gods. She drew not near to God.

In verse 5, the prophet writes that God will judge a society that has no shame. Society is shameless in its flaunting of sin. Sin is big business in the USA, saints. Prov 3.35 tells us that shame shall be the promotion of fools! The shame of sex sells….the shame of violence sells…the shame of unjust mammon is big business! Remember Christian the exhortation of Paul. Eph 5:12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
