Song of Songs 1:3 “Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name [is as] ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.”

God’s Name is likened to both a sweet fragrance and ointment. Have you ever walked into a room that was filled with the sweet smell of fresh flowers or some other fragrance? It grabs the attention of your sense of smell almost immediately. Likewise, have you ever experienced the pain of accidentally cutting yourself or scraping your knee? Ouch! You scramble your way to the medicine cabinet, and begin to apply aloe or some other medicated ointment. Almost immediately, the pain is replaced by the soothing ingredients of the ointment.

The Name of Jesus Christ is both a fragrance and ointment for sinners who know Him as Lord. His beautiful name sweetens our lives like the apothecary within the tabernacle. Exodus 30:25 “And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.” This holy oil was to used to anoint the priests and the vessels of the tabernacle. But this oil is not to to selfishly hoarded. It is to be spread out to others. The oil signifies being set apart for God.

Beloved, in Christ Jesus, the apostle John tells us in 1John 2.20, 27, that the anointing of God has set us apart for Jesus Christ today. Purpose to see yourself today as a refreshing vessel of honor for Jesus Christ. Know that the fragrance of Jesus poured forth upon and from you will be “smelled” differently today. 2 Cor 2.14-16, “Now thanks [be] unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: To the one [we are] the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who [is] sufficient for these things?” Because man is fallen, they have lost their original sense of smell. You have been placed in this world to be a mobile “air freshener” for Jesus!

When His Name, which speaks of His holy character, is manifested through your words and deeds, it is like that ointment applied to cuts and bruises. Because of sin, mankind is hurting, and the Only Cure is the fragrance and healing of Jesus. May the refreshing savor and healing ointment of Jesus Christ minister to you this morning beloved, with the overflow being a day of God using you to be a minister of refreshment and healing to others in His Name.
