Heb 4.16 “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
What is the difference between mercy and grace? Mercy is not getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we do not deserve. Because of the sinless, perfect sacrifice of Our Great High Priest Jesus Christ, when we come before Him in prayer we obtain mercy (this is not getting what we deserve) and find grace (this is getting what we don’t deserve) in our time of need.
This passage is an invitation for us as sinners to “come boldly unto the throne of grace”. And here is the reason that makes such an invitation to come boldly possible. It is because we, the body of Christ have a Great High Priest, The Lord Jesus Christ Who has passed into the heavens Who is both The Perfect Lamb of God and The Perfect High Priest.
Does this morning find you facing a time of need for you beloved? The Spirit of God compels you to come boldly to the throne of grace for help in time of need. How is it that we are able to come so boldly before a holy God? Because we have a great High Priest, the Risen Lord Jesus Christ, the throne of God is a throne of grace. And the help we get from God at that throne is mercy and grace to help in time of need. Grace to help! Not deserved help, gracious help.
This is the whole point of the Old and New Testaments. God planned for a High Priest, a Savior, a Redeemer, a gracious Helper, The Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You Father for Your abundant provision in and through Christ.
