Nahum 1:15 Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
In this prophecy of Nahum that tells of the impending judgment that is to come upon sinful Nineveh, God proclaims a message of peace to Judah. Approximately 100 years have passed since God granted a revival during the time of Jonah. But the revival was short-lived. The vast majority of the Ninevites returned to their cruel, violent, and immoral ways. The people of God dwelling in their midst were oppressed by such behavior.
But before The Lord “drops the hammer of judgment”, He talks about bringing good tidings of peace to those who trust in Him. The thought of this passage is also cited in Isaiah and by the apostle Paul in Romans. “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!” (Isaiah 52:7) “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:15 )
Though judgment is coming, God calls His people to declare to our Ninevites His gospel of peace. But He also commands us to declare to those who hear the gospel that God reigns, and He is a Jealous God (Exodus 34:14). Beloved, as you begin your day, be sure to shod your feet with the gospel of peace (Ephesians 6:15), and do not forget that in spite of everything that is going on that would seem to indicate that the wicked triumph over good, God reigns! Do not lose heart!
