Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1 KJV)
Every human being has this basic desire to be free. The key is how you define freedom. Freedom is the purpose of Jesus Christ coming to this earth. Jesus Christ, in coming to die for sinners, has also come to set us free from things that hold us in bondage. But just like the serpent lied to Eve in the garden, the devil lies to mankind about the truth of the gospel. You see beloved, Christ sets us free from the debt, bondage and corruption of sin. But to the natural man, the things of God are deemed puritanical and rigid. Holiness and purity is not as “pleasurable” as feeding the flesh with forbidden fruit and desires.
The world system apart from Jesus Christ loves darkness. They call good evil, and evil good. Thus, when the gospel is proclaimed as the power of God to set you free. The devil goes on the offensive with lies regarding the true nature of either religion or the lusts of the flesh. Truth is, beloved, religion holds people in bondage to rituals that can never set a person free from the debt of sin. Paul said to the wavering Galatians, but now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
The deeds of the flesh, though pleasurable for a season, can only bring a person’s life into bondage and despair. Peter writing to those who were being taught by the false teachers that “if it feels good, do it”, while they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
In Christ alone is forgiveness and fulfillment. The tempter will not retreat in his attempt to lure into his web of deception by appealing to your flesh beloved. Preach the gospel to yourself. Only whom The Son sets free is free indeed.
