Do you read the bible for information or for revelation? Are you prone towards the academics of the faith of Christ, or intimacy with Christ Himself?
Job 22.21 Acquaint now thyself with Him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
Our passage today speaks of getting better acquainted with God. The apostle John wrote, that which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. Developing intimacy with Jesus Christ will be a cause of peace and fullness of joy.
When Jesus invited the multitude to come unto Him, He included the words, learn of Me. Jesus was inviting people to come to Him and then learn of Him. Not come to Him and learn about Him, but come to Him in order to develop a deeper understanding and fellowship with Him. I fear that in our high tech age the pursuit of a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ has been overshadowed by the desire for more informal information about Him. Dear ones, if our growth of bible knowledge does not translate into a greater love for Jesus Christ and intimacy with Him more than a love for anyone else or anything, we have not yet begun to understand the gospel message nor the depths of the love of God for us.
