1 Thessalonians 1:5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is a message that provides blessed assurance to those who receive it, and walk in the truth of it. Such was the case with the church in Thessalonica. Despite the severe trials they were facing after they came to salvation by grace, through faith in Christ, they were walking in faith, love and hope. Their walk was the evidence that God had begun a good work in them. Thus, The Holy Ghost bore witness of their new birth and the blessed assurance of knowing their election of, or by God. Assurance of salvation is so vital to a stable walk in an ever changing world of circumstances and emotions.
The Holy Spirit writes to the Hebrews in Hebrews 6:11 “And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end.” Again, during a time of intense persecution, God wanted them to know that in Christ Jesus, there was full assurance. Further on in Hebrews we read, Hebrews 10:22 “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” Isn’t it wonderful to know, beloved, that through the perfect, once and for all sacrifice of The Lord Jesus Christ, we can draw near to God with full assurance today? Full assurance. No doubt.
And what is that full assurance? It is the full assurance of our forgiveness of sin. It is the full assurance that despite the proverbial afflictions and sufferings we face in this life, Jesus is on His throne, ruling and reigning over every sparrow and snowflake.
Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. Glory to God!
