What we deserve as sinners is death. What God offers to us through His Son Jesus Christ is eternal life (Romans 6:23). While the world is vainly seeking for the mythical “Fountain of Youth”, God is proclaiming a message of eternal life to all who believe in His Son. “…God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11,13).
Eternal life is what Jesus is (1 John 1:2), as well as what Jesus gives to those who reach out to Him by Grace (Titus 3:7). Though damaged by the fall of Adam, grace reigns “through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 5:21).
All Scripture points to Jesus Christ (John 5:39) and the life that He gives to those who trust in Him (John 3:14-16). Jesus tells us that He gives to His sheep eternal life and that we will never perish (John 10:27,28). Furthermore, all whom the Father gives to Jesus will come to Him (John 17:2).
TODAY is the day of salvation, beloved (2 Corinthians 6:2). Jesus has the words of eternal life for you (John 6:68). May the Spirit of God give us ears to hear His truth, and may as many as are ordained to eternal life (Acts 13:48b) be added to the Lord today (Acts 2:47b).
