1 Kings 18.1,2 Now it happened after many days that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, “Go, show yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the face of the earth.” So Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. Now the famine was severe in Samaria.
For Elijah to go and see King Ahab at this point in time was an act of faith and courage. Because of the sin of forsaking God, and the worship of Baal, the nation was experiencing the consequence of judgments the form of a severe famine. To say the least, Elijah, who the prophet of Jehovah, was not a popular person in the “Ahab administration.” What emboldened Elijah to go and give this prophetic message to Ahab? Elijah’s faith in the promise of a God to send rain.
Beloved, when we embrace the promises of God in our heart, it emboldens us to walk in courage and faith. Your “foe” today may not be a wicked King, but it may be a relationship gone sour. A loss of employment that has left you bewildered. A sudden, unexpected loss of a loved one or your health. My prayer is that The Holy Spirit will reveal to you a promise or principle of God that will restore your faith and courage. Unbelief and doubt are debilitating. They crush your hope and zap your soul of energy and power.
But, oh what faith in a promise of God will do! It will cause you to build an ark in a desert place like Noah. It will cause you to leave your homeland and step out in faith like Abraham. It will cause you to call down fire from heaven like Elijah. Dear ones, faith in the promises of God is not mind over matter. It is the belief that Jehovah rules and reigns in all things. It’s the belief that all the promises of God are yes and Amen in Christ Jesus.
One promise is that His mercies or covenant faithfulness are new this morning. To that we reply, great is Thy faithfulness oh God. May the promises and presence of Jesus embolden you today to walk with confidence in Him.
Hmm it ooks like your blog ate my first comment (it was eextremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying
your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m
still nnew tto the whole thing. Do you have any helpful hints for beginner bllog writers?
I’d definitely appreciate it.
I have only begun blogging the past few months myself, so I consider myself a novice as well. I try to write blogs that stem from my personal reading of Scriptures. When some thought or passage “jumps off the pages”, I write and trust The Lord will use it to bless, challenge or encourage others. Above all, my desire is to point readers to Christ and seek to glorify Him in all that they do. Thank you for reading the blog, and I truly covet your prayers. Pastor Ray
