Ezekiel 44:23 And they shall teach my people [the difference] between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.
The priests of the line of Zadok were to teach God’s people that there is a difference between the holy and profane, unclean and clean. Such language is unacceptable in today’s secular society. The mores of society today is that there is no such thing as absolute truth. Every man is doing that which is right in his or her own eyes. Light has come into the world, but the darkness comprehends it not.
Beloved, the call of God upon our lives is to walk in holiness. To be holy as is defined in Scripture means that we will be different. We will think differently than an unsaved person does. We will desire things that are different than an unsaved person does. God’s Word will draw the lines of distinction for us, not the fallen, twisted ideas of fallen society. However, it is critical for us as followers of Jesus to tread this walk of holiness with the same compassion that Jesus had for the multitudes, when He saw them as sheep without a shepherd. Our call to holiness is not meant to develop a self-righteous, holier than thou attitude towards those who have yet to come to Christ. It is meant to be a display of the image of Christ and the power of His gospel.
A life that has been regenerated by The Spirit of God will be a holy life. A clean life. Not simply a changed life. Countless things can change your life, but only the power of the gospel can give you a new heart and produce holiness.
Dear ones, ask The Lord to empower you each moment of your day in such a way that the lines of distinction will be seen, as well as heard. By walking in the counsel of God, you will inevitable be living a lifestyle that will be different than your unsaved co-workers or neighbors. They may indeed be nice, and kind, and even generous. But the difference lies in the motive behind the acts. We draw the line for the glory of God and to please our Savior. We draw the line in order to point people to the saving knowledge of Christ. God’s Word draws the plumb line of sin that we dare not blur or compromise. Draw the line beloved in your deeds and words today. Do what is right in the sight of The Lord.
