Jeremiah 9:23-24 Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
It is possible for a person to only have an intellectual knowledge of God. The Pharisees were religious, but they were spiritually dead because the “God” they knew was only a theological God. Ponder that a moment. Is your God real, or a God who is no more alive than the ink and paper that is used to record a statement of faith? Can you see the difference? Do you know the difference? We have been redeemed to know God in a real and living way. “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” (John 17:3) 1 John 5:11,12 says, “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; [and] he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” Eternal life is a relationship with Jesus Christ.
In the Old Testament, people made gods of silver, gold, wood, and stone. They made gods after their own imagination. These so-called gods were dead, as were those who worshipped them. Likewise, we are living in a day and age when people are gathering more theological information about God but are lacking that real knowledge of Him. Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.” (John 10:14) There is a relationship, a real relationship that exists between Jesus Christ and His sheep. “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27) Dear ones, those who have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ, cultivate that intimacy with your Lord. Walk in the reality of Who He is – The Living God. Selah
