The dictionary says that the word chosen means, ‘selected from or preferred above others.’ The Greek word means ‘elected or selected.’ Each child of God is a chosen vessel, and every election or choosing for eternal life is in Jesus Christ. You can be sure that no human being could or would be chosen outside of Christ, ‘for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’ Furthermore, God’s redemptive plan predates time as we know it.
We are chosen, but we are chosen in the Lord, as was brother Rufus (Rom 16:13a). It is truly humbling to read about the people God chooses. It is even more amazing to read that we have been chosen to bear enduring fruit and to ‘proclaim the praises of Him who called (us) out of darkness into His marvelous light’.
To be a chosen vessel means that our ‘exodus’ is out of this fallen world system which is now being run by the wicked one himself. Consequently, we are now in a war which requires us to be good soldiers.
Our election is a total work of the grace of God. Have you chosen the way of truth? Have you chosen to live according to God’s precepts? To serve Jesus is a choice. To fear God is a choice. Praise God for His gift of eternal life!
