John 1:29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

John 1:35-36  Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

John the baptizer was the forerunner of The Messiah, Jesus Christ. That was his calling from God, to point people to Jesus. Behold the Lamb of God!

Beholding Jesus is not glancing at Him. It is not a one time observation. It is a matter of life and death. Jesus said, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.” (John 5:39,40)

It is only in beholding Jesus and coming to Him that we have life. This beholding of Jesus is the very essence of the gospel message. Beholding Jesus is how we come to salvation. Beholding Jesus is how we live out the gospel in the midst of life’s strange turns and tribulations. Beholding Jesus is our eternal destiny. “And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.” ( Revelation 5:6 )

Dear reader, Behold The Lamb of God! Set your affections on Him. Cast your cares upon Him. He loves you with outstretched arms. He died for your sin, that you might have life in Him. Eternal life is beholding The Lamb of God – nothing more, nothing less, nothing else. Selah.
