In today’s passage, the conflict between Jesus and the Jewish religious leaders had reached its peak. They demanded to know by what authority Jesus did His miracles, but Jesus deflected their question with a question of His own. By doing so, the query that was supposed to trap Jesus in His words became a trap for His questioners. This caused their blood to boil over with envy and hatred.
