Zech 11.11 And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the Lord.
Nothing happens by chance in God’s universe. Though the mystery of iniquity and the wheels of divine providence are not easy to understand, the bottom line is that God rules in the affairs of men. Zechariah is a prophet that writes of both the first and second coming of The Lord Jesus Christ. Our meditation verse tells us that in the midst of the judgments of God, those who waited upon Him, knew that what was happening was from The Lord.
As the world turns, things happen on our earth that confound the minds of men. Politicians are at a loss for answers. Economists are divided in assessing the world’s financial condition. The medical field is dealing with more mysterious illness and viruses than ever before. The liberal church is calling good evil and evil good. The Pope is having prayer meetings with leaders of other religions. Who are they praying to? And yet, for those who wait upon The Lord and meditate upon His Word, we know that what is happening is according to the commandments of God.
In another prophecy regarding Assyria, the prophet Isaiah said, The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: For the Lord of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?. The bible predicts perilous times in the last days. Days like those of Noah and Sodom and Gommorah. Days of rank rebellion against the moral government of God. Days of sensual hedonism and hearts of men waxing cold because of sin and hardened hearts.
In the midst of it all, the child of God can find a peace and comfort in The Lord and from The Lord. The Lord God Omnipotent reigneth. Headline news becomes part of our prayers. Those who rebel against God are our harvest field. Lift your eyes up to heaven today, beloved. Preach the gospel whenever and wherever you can. God will keep those in perfect peace, whose minds are stayed on Him.
Amen!
