Psalms 112:7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.
This is said to be the state of the heart of the man who fears The Lord and delights greatly in His commandments. There is no shortage of evil tidings in the world. Prophets of doom abound in the economic and medical fields. Nothing that we eat or drink is any good for us anymore. Islamic fundamentalists are planning another major attack on our soil. On and on they go, where they stop, nobody knows. Be that as it may. Here is the bottom line. Even if all of this is true, for those who fear God and delight in Him, their heart will be secure and fixed.
Beloved, learn to cultivate a fixed heart before The Lord. We cultivate a fixed heart by seeking The Lord when our fears arise. David said in Psalms 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. Indeed, the perfect love of God casts out fear. There is no denying the reality of our fears. But for the saint with a fixed heart, they will dismantle that fear by trusting in The Lord and praising Him. Psalms 56:3 “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. 4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”
There is only peace in our hearts when our minds are fixed on The Lord. Isaiah 26:3 “Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee. 4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH [is] everlasting strength.” Read those last verses again dear ones. Like water soaking into a sponge, let the truth and comfort of those words sink down deep into your soul. The question is not IF there will be evil tidings or bad news. The question is a matter of when. The last days will be days when men’s hearts will be troubling them for fear of the things that are happening.
So let me leave you with this beloved. A fixed heart is a choice that you have to make. It is choosing to place God above all fears and evil tidings. This is not mind over matter, this is God over all! The result of this Godward look?
Psalms 64:10 “The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.” Jesus said this, John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” The cure for your troubled heart is to fix it upon Jesus.
Amen.
