We will learn today that walking with Jesus and walking in the Spirit are one and the same thing. To walk in the Spirit is not some mystical, esoteric kind of an experience that “just happens.” No, it is a decision that we make to give the Spirit of God the “right of way” in our lives (Romans 6:4-14). It is choosing to walk in the light of Scripture (Psalm 1:1-3), instead of the instincts of my flesh or the mores of fallen society (Romans 12:1-3). It is in the truest sense, a constant war that every single Christian faces on an hour by hour, day by day basis (Ephesians 6:10-13).

Temptation is a way of life for every child of God. “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13; see also James 1:13,14.) However, the good news is that when we yield ourselves totally to God, we can experience victory in our lives over the flesh and its destructive lusts. Conversely, the power of God will remain dormant in our lives apart from a decision on our part to cooperate with Him.

So be encouraged in the battle today, saints, and walk in the victory that God has promised us. “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ” (2 Corinthians 2:14).
