Peter opened his second general epistle by first stating that he was a bondservant of Jesus Christ before mentioning his apostleship. He humbly recognized that he was first and foremost a servant by choice and an Apostle by divine appointment. We too must recognize that we are servants first, and any office or ministry that we have is because Jesus gave it to us: We did not earn it.
