Vashti had been deposed as the Persian queen for disobeying King Ahasuerus. This led to a search for her replacement from among all the virgins in the kingdom. This resulted in the king’s chamberlain bringing a beautiful young Jewess named Hadassah, who took the Persian name of Esther, into the king’s palace along with many others. Though it was frightening for Esther, it was part of God’s plan to preserve His people from destruction. Please open your Bible to Esther chapter two, and listen as Pastor Ray Viola begins his study of this chapter.
