Mark 10.43-45 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave[fn] of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Luke 6.38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.

Isn’t human nature funny? Whenever I am confronted by a truth that upsets my personal comfort zone, I immediately label the messenger as a legalist. Likewise, when I write blogs about serving or giving, the response is that I am becoming legalistic. But what do you call Jesus? Does He not tell us to serve with Him As our example? Does He not tell us to give, with Him being our example?

Thus beloved, when we stop serving and giving, we really stop living the way we were created and redeemed to live. Kingdom living is all about serving and giving, not getting and consuming. The spirit of this age is all about self and what’s in it for me? Why don’t people serve me? Why doesn’t anybody help me? Why isn’t this person or this church giving to me?

Reverse those questions and place yourself as Jesus asking them to you. Why aren’t you focusing serving others? Why aren’t you focusing on helping others? Why aren’t you giving to your church or others? Beloved, we are to be followers of Christ, not followers of this fallen world’s values. Instead of looking at him or her or them, look unto Jesus and live in a way that pleases Him. Do not let the “noise” of Facebook or any other disgruntled social media become your “Bible.” Serve and give graciously, and you will be blessed.
