Job is one of the Bible characters that people admire, but they want no part of the life that makes one admirable. Job was mentioned by Ezekiel alongside of Noah and Daniel as great men of God.1 God himself called Job His servant, unlike any on earth at the time, “blameless and upright, one who fears God and turns from evil”.2

Nevertheless this man, as most of you know, suffered great personal loss.3 In fact, God allowed (not commanded) Satan to try (test) His servant Job with these losses.4 On top of all that, Job was then afflicted physically.5 But in spite of all this, Job still worshipped God,6 both in good and evil times.7

Oh brother Job had his dungeon doubts,8 but he had a personal relationship with his God.9 The God of Job is our risen Lord Jesus Christ!

We too can acquaint ourselves with Jesus and experience His peace.10 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”11

Trust in God enables us, even in affliction, to know that our God is compassionate and merciful towards us.12 The sovereign God of Job is our sovereign Lord today. As with Job, He is performing things in my life13 for my good14 and His glory.15

The best is yet to come16…ask Job!17
