Nehemiah 3.5 And next to them the Tekoites repaired, but their nobles would not stoop to serve their Lord.

Romans 12.6-8 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads,[fn] with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

Nehemiah 3 tells us about how those who were delivered from Babylonian captivity worked side by side to repair and rebuild the city walls of Jerusalem. How exciting it must have been to see the various families and individuals working together to build the city of God. But God also noted those who would have nothing to do with building the wall. Only God knows why they were AWOL, non participants in the work.

Could it be that Jesus looks down at His church and notices those who simply observe the work of The Lord being done, but refuse to lift a finger to help? Or perhaps they are simply too busy to serve because of other commitments?

God endows each and every part of the body of Christ with gifts and talents. These God given abilities are given to us to use as stewards. They are meant to be put to use in our daily lives. Work. Family. School. But may I suggest to you dear ones that these gifts are also meant to be put to good use in your local church. Some people say that their gift is to pray and be supportive financially. May I suggest to you that those are things that every saint should be doing?

How is it that so many in the body of Christ simply “do not have the time” to serve in their local church, but they seem to have the time to be involved in lots of other things? I am not suggesting that our God given abilities are only meant to be used at our local church. I am asking the question of why some people never have served in their local church at all? We have been saved to serve. Saved to serve together. What part of the wall of your local church are you serving in? Selah
