Revelation 5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

Join me in entering this sacred heavenly scene this morning. It is near the end of the first century on earth. The aged apostle John has been banished to the island of Patmos because of his testimony of Jesus Christ. Christians are being persecuted and martyred. It is in this context that a God shows John this glorious, breathtaking heavenly scene. His Master, Lord and God, Jesus Christ is seen as slain, yet risen and prevailing!

Place your life, your cares, your concerns this morning into that scene, dear ones. Fix your eyes upon Jesus, the risen, prevailing Lord of glory. Know that He did not overcome sin and death for Himself, but that God The Father would be glorified when we overcome through faith in Him as well. Weep not beloved, The Lion of the tribe of Judah has prevailed! He has prevailed, that we may overcome as well.

This fallen world system has an agenda. It is to smother, deaden or utterly destroy your faith in Jesus Christ. This world system is not your friend any more than that pagan nations were Israel’s friend. This world craves your love, your attention, your affection. How do we overcome such a powerful foe? 1 John 5:4 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, [even] our faith.” It is only by be holding the most glorious risen Jesus that the false glamor and glitter of this world is exposed and overcome.

In Romans 8, Paul lists a number of things that I do not hear many contemporary Christians claiming as belonging to them. “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Overwhelmed? Absolutely not! No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Through Jesus redeeming love, we overcome, or are conquerors.

When your heart is overwhelmed, go to The Rock, Jesus Christ. Look to The Rock, Jesus Christ. Stop looking for methods or “biblical principles” as the key that unlocks victory. Victory to overcome is in Jesus and Jesus alone. Even when you are in your 90’s and banished from all sources of supply on earth. Just ask the apostle John.
