The book of Philemon is a personal letter from Paul the apostle to Philemon. In the first chapter Paul calls himself “a prisoner of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Paul was writing this letter from a prison cell, but he knew no physical chains could prevent God from being glorified with his life. Philemon was a runaway slave who had met Paul and heard the Gospel of Jesus. His name means “profitable and useful.” In God’s eyes we are all profitable and useful; He sees value in each one of us even when we feel like we are stuck in a “prison cell.”Please open your Bible to Philemon, verse 1, as we listen to Pastor Ray develop this idea for us today.
