1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, [even] our faith.

Born again individuals are overcomers. This overcoming is not via our accomplishments; it is solely by grace, through faith in The Lord Jesus Christ. The victory that is ours is by virtue of Christ’s victory on the cross and resurrection from the dead. To be victorious in this life means to persevere. Overcoming is not a position that we hold on to; it is a process.

“Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:5)

Overcoming the world means that through faith in Christ, we are delivered from this fallen world system’s grip and glamour. Though tempted and tried, we overcome the allurements and fatal attraction to Satan’s menu of counterfeit pleasures and lusts. Though we may lose a skirmish along the way, we can persevere by pleading the blood of Christ.

Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

As is the case in all of the promises given by Jesus to overcomers in Revelation 2 & 3, the ultimate granting of these promises is given when we reach the finish line. Fight the good fight of faith today, dear ones. Remember that greater is He Who is in you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). Persevere through the tests and trials. Jesus is with you and for you. “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” (Revelation 21:7) Reader, the best is yet to come. The victory that we have IN Christ is for today and forever.
