1 Timothy 6.17-19 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

We hear a lot of talk these days about the importance of making wise investments. The financial gurus tell us the things to consider when preparing to make such investments. God’s Word is not silent about this subject. Today’s verses are the “tip of the iceberg” on this matter. What can we learn from them?

1- Do not put your trust in uncertain riches. In this world, financial security cannot be guaranteed. Be wise in handling what God gives you, but let your money be invested in a kingdom that outlasts the NY Stock Exchange.

2- Put all of your trust in the Living God. Invest your life in knowing Christ. Enjoy the things that He richly gives you today.

3- Invest your life in doing good and helping others.

Investments made for life on earth are at best temporal. Investments made for eternity will last forever. I am not advocating a prayerless, careless usage of God’s means of providing for you in this life. I am advocating a holy recklessness in living for and investing in the kingdom of God. Only Godward investments pay eternal dividends.
