Rehoboam only trusted in God and was serious about Him as long as he felt he needed something from Him. This was the root cause of his eventual defection from the Lord. If we, by the grace of God, should grow strong and prosperous, we must beware of the temptation to attribute our prosperity to our own ingenuity. God alone supplies all we have, and we never outgrow our need of Him.
